THE PROFESSIONAL
Hi there! I’m Katie, an award-winning artist based in Buffalo NY, using oil paints to celebrate light’s awe-inspiring power to transform the ordinary into extraordinary beauty.
I’ve been making art for my whole life, but received formal training through my BA in Studio Art where I concentrated on painting. After college I shifted my focus and started a business photographing weddings and portraits. Composition came naturally, but photography taught me more about light than any painting class ever could have. I became obsessed with lighting and it changed the way I saw the world. I now walk through life with a deep awareness and appreciation for moments of light that illuminate the beauty of the world around us.
Running my photography business was my dream job for a while, but after twelve years spent photographing thousands of people, and over 200 weddings, I began to miss the feeling of a paintbrush in my hand and the freedom of making art on my own terms. I started painting again at the start of 2023, and nothing compares.
I spend a lot of time on walks and exploring, and I’m constantly stopping in my tracks (or pulling over) to admire compelling light and shadows. Many of my paintings come from reference photos that I take in these moments, and I’m always striving to share the sense of gratitude and awe for the world around us that I feel whenever I see beautiful light.
& THE PERSONAL
My husband and I met in college at SUNY Geneseo, and I should have known then that my born-and-bred Buffalo boy and diehard Bills and Sabres fan would find a way to get me to move to the City of Good Neighbors! We’ve been living in Buffalo since 2019 and I love so many things about this city, especially the community and the architecture. Our 120 year old home has lots of quirks and character, and no shortage of opportunities for house projects! Since moving I’ve painted walls, installed flooring, tiled walls and showers, drywalled, and lots of landscaping! No complaints - I love a hands on project!
In November of 2025 we had our baby boy, Finn, and we couldn’t be more in love. Our family time is full of snuggles, dance parties, walks around our neighborhood, and exploring Buffalo’s restaurant scene (give me all the tacos please). When I’m not with family or working on paintings or projects, I’m probably with friends, gardening, reading, or playing pickleball!
I can’t describe myself without mentioning my deep interest in psychology! I hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree, and if I wasn’t an artist I’m sure I’d be working in that field. I’m always thrilled to talk about interesting research or aspects of the human mind and behavior!
